Development on Hold

Development of PinesQuest 2D is on hold indefinitely.

While I'm not uninterested in possibly one day returning to this project, in fact not that long ago (earlier this year) I had a spark of inspiration and actually finalized some important details of PQ2D's story that I hadn't up until then, I ran into a lot of issues during my solo development of it. Most of these problems I doubt were unsolvable, however they definitely required more time, resources, skill or experience than I had and even now still don't have.

Back when I first started developing PQ2D back in 2016, shortly after the Gravity Falls TV series ended, it was originally intended as a small scale game using only pre-existing assets from the original PinesQuest browser game. It was meant to be a much simpler project doable for me as a first time game developer. However as I kept working on and thinking about the game's story, something I didn't have much of an idea about in the beginning, PQ2D became far more ambitious and elaborate along with the story itself... until it unfortunately ended up past the point where it was something I could reasonably accomplish on my own as a novice basically making their first game ever.

So I'm not sure whether or not PQ2D will ever come to fruition as a full game the way I've been envisioning it the past nearly 7 years. This game has always been a passion project born out of my love for Gravity Falls, and the feeling it deserved a better video game to its name than the mediocre 3DS title that even the series' creator himself, Alex Hirsch, was deeply unsatisfied with. Sadly though, the things I'm capable of actually doing often can't keep up with my passionate and lofty aspirations... in fact, they usually can't. Still, from day one, I've put an absurd amount of love into this fangame. I even ended up commissioning a lot of new illustrations and pixel art graphics for it out of my own very limited pockets, almost all of which still remains under wraps and not seen by anyone but me and the original artists. The very last thing I want is to continue to keep all of that and more locked away forever.

Which means I have some other ideas on how to finally fully share my vision for PinesQuest 2D with anyone who still adores Gravity Falls as much as I do, and would be interested in knowing what the plans for the rest of it were. There are still things I have to consider, but I may have more to say about that this summer, when I won't be as busy as I am normally.

From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to sincerely thank everyone everyone who played the demo and supported me and PQ2D over the years. Gravity Falls truly had, and still has, one of the most awesome fan communities to ever exist. Always stay weird and wonderful, my fellow Fallers.
